Shed delivery access guide

Think Your Fence Stops Delivery? It Does Not.

We deliver through fenced lots every week in Denton, Wichita Falls, and across North Texas. If your opening is 2 feet wider than the shed and you have 13 feet of overhead clearance, a fence usually is not the deal breaker people think it is.

Opening width

Your opening must be 2 feet wider than the building.

Overhead clearance

You need at least 13 feet of overhead clearance along the full path.

Real example

A 12 foot wide shed needs a 14 foot opening.

Do I need to remove my fence for shed delivery?

Not always. If the tightest point in the path is already wide enough, we can usually deliver right through. If it is not wide enough, you normally only remove one fence section, not the whole fence.

Before you start, compare your measurements to our installation guide and delivery site prep guide. Those pages show the full path requirements from the street to the final shed location.

How wide does the opening need to be?

The opening needs to be 2 feet wider than the shed you are buying, and the route also needs at least 13 feet of overhead clearance. Measure the gate, the swing path, low tree limbs, roof overhangs, and anything else that narrows the route.

  • Width rule: Opening must be 2 feet wider than the building.
  • Height rule: Keep at least 13 feet of overhead clearance.
  • Example: A 12 foot wide shed needs a 14 foot opening.
  • Tip: Measure the tightest point in the route, not just the prettiest part of the gate.

Can you deliver through a fence with concreted posts?

Yes. Wood fences with concreted posts are usually opened by removing the panel and cutting the post above the concrete, then putting it back together after the shed is installed. It sounds dramatic. It is usually just a clean temporary opening.

1

Remove the wood panels

Take off the 4 foot or 8 foot panel sections first. In most cases you can pull the boards or remove the panel from the rails without tearing apart the whole fence line.

2

Cut the post 2 inches above the concrete

Use a reciprocating saw with a steel cutting blade and cut the post about 2 inches above the concrete base. One person can usually do this in about 15 minutes.

3

Get the shed delivered and set

Once the opening is clear, we deliver and install the shed. This is the part that feels hard until you see how much room the driver actually needs.

4

Insert a pipe scab inside the post

Use the next smallest pipe diameter, about 12 to 18 inches long, inside the fence post as a scab sleeve. This gives you a straight connector to bring the post back together.

5

Set the original post back on top and fasten it

Set the original post on top of the pipe sleeve, drill through both pieces, and secure them with two bolts or self-tapping metal screws.

6

Reconnect the lower stub and reinstall the panels

Use the same approach on the 2 inch stub that stayed in the ground. Reinstall the panels and your fence is back up the same day.

What tools are usually needed?

  • Reciprocating saw with a steel cutting blade
  • Drill and bits for bolts or self-tapping screws
  • Short piece of smaller pipe to use as the inside scab

How long does fence removal take?

Most wood fence prep takes one person about 15 minutes to open if the post cut is straightforward. Chain-link is often even easier because you can temporarily remove a panel or cut one section, get the shed in, and rerun it fast.

Wood fence

Best when you need a clean temporary opening. Remove panels, cut the post above the concrete, then reconnect it with a scab sleeve after delivery.

Chain-link fence

Usually easier than wood. Remove the panel or cut a section, deliver the shed, then rerun the section in minutes. If you have chain-link, this objection is usually a paper tiger.

What if I do not want to do it myself?
